Misha Collins in SUPERNATURALHey ‘simmers, remember the rumors about Misha Collins leaving Supernatural?  It seems we now know that Misha Collins IS NOT leaving Supernatural.  He’ll be back, but only in a limited capacity/appearance mode on this CW network series.

In my Supernatural season finale review, I ended it pondering the rumor about Misha Collins.  The only hope we had has that Collins never came out and denied or confirmed anything, that anyone knew of.  I mean he’s tweeted about the Queen, about not being able to find his favorite snack food, and how people don’t seem open-minded enough when he cross dresses.  But not word about if the rumors of his leaving Supernatural were true or not.

TVLine is reporting exclusively that Misha Collins is not returning as a full-time cast member for The CW‘s Supernatural seventh season.  He won’t be a regular in the show.

But it seems that he will show up on and off, but we won’t get as much of Cas next season.

Executive producer Sera Gamble told TVLine the following:

When it comes to Supernatural, our philosophy is that everyone moves in and out and weaves in and out of the story, obviously with the exception of Sam and Dean.  We love Misha. We love and adore the character of Castiel. His character developed to this extent and went in this unexpected direction because we were so inspired by him.

She indicated that the direction or transformation that his character took was a bit unexpected and that they like to keep the focus on “where the Impala can go.”

Collins is expected to be in the seventh season opener, but beyond that, we’ll probably be seeing sporadic mentions of Cas.  Gamble won’t say more, so we’ll have to be patient.

On Another Note (Kripke & Edlund)

Other news in the TVLine article was that Eric Kipke and Ben Edlund are returning to the show.  At least its made mention since their names were left off the press releases some of us received, but they’re returning.  With new titles.  Not sure what that means, “new titles.”  The only point out that they’ve been involved in the writing process with Gamble all week.

I’m only a tad disappointed that Misha Collins won’t be in the demon hunting series as much as he was last season, but they want to not seem dependent on the character of Cas though it seemed that the power-hungry mode he just stepped into could make it such.  Like I said in my season finale review,

I suppose he could be referenced repeatedly and never shown

And so that is what I am fully expecting from season 7 of Supernatural.  References to Cas throughout, but not really seeing him.  Much like how they handled the actual angel civil war, with updates via references.  Before you get all sad all over yourselves, consider this:  Though it’s sad we won’t see as much of him as we’ve become accustomed to, if he’s not committed to the series, maybe we’ll see him in other projects either on The CW, the Syfy channel (where we’ve seen him before) or maybe somewhere else.  I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

Supernatural returns for their 7th season, on Friday’s at 9 p.m..  Keep it tuned here, to Cinema Static on Brusimm, for any more details that I discover!
