Movie Production News and NotesThis week I took a look at what movies changed their production status recently and the list looks good…

-

Pacific Rim

This movie from Guillermo del Toro, has gone into post-production.  It’s about

“When an alien attack threatens the Earth’s existence, giant robots piloted by humans are deployed to fight off the menace.”

PACIFIC RIM - The Movie Teaser PosterThink Kaiju or Godzilla-like monsters, with humans kicking lizard butt in their giant fighting robots.

It stars Charlie Day, Charlie Hunnam, Clifton Collins Jr, Idris Elba, Max Martini & Ron Perlman and promises to be a super fun popcorn sci-fi slug fest!

Pacific Rim is due out in theaters in July of 2013.

-

Looper

'Looper' onesheetStarring Emily Blunt, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Bruce Willis, Paul Dano, Piper Perabo & Jeff Daniels.  This sci-fi action flick looks to have wrapped up primary filming and has gone to Post-production phase.

It’s due out in theaters on 28 September 2012:

“In the year 2042, a mob hitman assassinates targets that arrive from the future of 2072. For him it’s just a job… till he receives a new target: himself from the future.”

-

The Host

This movie stars Saoirse Ronan, Diane Kruger, Jake Abel, Max Irons, Frances Fisher, & William Hurt.  It’s directed by Andrew Niccol, the man who brought us In Time.

It moved into post-production recently and is about a parasitic alien with a soul and is due out in theaters on 29 March 2013.

“A parasitic alien soul is injected into the body of Melanie Stryder. Instead of carrying out her race’s mission of taking over the Earth, “Wanda” (as she comes to be called) forms a bond with her host and sets out to aid other free humans.”

-

A Good Day to Die Hard

Or maybe a good day to retire John McClain!!!  This movie has started filming, and yes, it’s a new ‘Die Hard‘ franchise movie starring Bruce Willis as John McClane and Jai Courtney as John’s son, Jack McClane.  (Maybe it’s a good day to retire!)

Maybe we’re passing the mantle so that next movie movie might be “Die Hard: College Finals!”

It’s due out in theaters on Feb 14th, 2013.

-

The Wolverine

Shooting for a July 2013 release date, this project has officially gone into the pre-production stage of its life.

With Hugh Jackman starrring, and directed by James Mangold (Knight and Day, 3:10 to Yuma).

In this film, Logan heads to Japan and meets up with the Silver Samurai and other related details.

-

Machete Kills

Noted to have moved into the pre-production stage, the movie stars Amber Heard, Jessica Alba, Mel Gibson, Michelle Rodriguez & Danny Trejo.  Another new face tapped for the Robert Rodriguez (Spy Kids franchise, Predators) blood-fest is Sofia Vergara.

It’s due for a 2013 release, while Rodriguez works on this and the sequel, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For

-

The Bling Ring

This movie has moved into the post-production phase… Starring Emma Watson, Kirsten Dunst & Leslie Mann, the movie is

“Inspired by actual events, a group of fame-obsessed teenagers use the Internet to track celebrities’ whereabouts in order to rob their homes.”

It’s directed by Sofia Coppola (Somewhere, Marie Antoinette, Lost in Translation), so I guess we can expect a fair amount of hype on this one.

It’s due out in 2013 sometime.

-

Mad Max: Fury Road

With Tom Hardy taking the role of Max Rockatansky in this remake, it also stars Charlize Theron and Nicholas Hoult.

It’s noted to have moved into the pre-production stage of its life-cycle.

Though I’m not sure what’s up with the directorial choice of George Miller, whose directing credits include the animated feature franchises like Happy Feet and Babe.

-

The End of the World

Noted for having started filming, this movie’s cast includes Danny McBride, Emma Watson, James Franco, Jason Segel, Jay Baruchel, Jonah Hill, Rihanna and Seth Rogen as… themselves… in a film about:

“While attending a party at James Franco’s house, Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel and many other celebrities are faced with the apocalypse.”

Due out in June of 2013, it’s directed by Evan Goldberg (50/50, Goon, The Green Hornet).  I see two warning signs already… the director put out The Green Hornet and Rihanna is in it!

-

Cloud Atlas

This movie stars Halle Berry, Hugh Grant, Hugo Weaving, Jim Sturgess, Susan Sarandon & Tom Hanks.

“Six stories set in a different time and place become intricately related to each other.”

I’m not holding my breath on this one but it has gone into post-production and is due out in late 2012.
