This is a movie review of the 2010 movie, Unstoppable.  (Yep, I finally got around to seeing it) Produced and distributed by Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation and stars Denzel Washington, Chris Pine, and Rosario Dawson, with Ethan Suplee, Kevin Dunn and is directed & produced by Tony Scott.

If you’re a Denzel Washington fan, this is classic Washington.  If you’re a Chris Pine fan, it’s a nice and different character for Pine.  At least for me, after my last exposure to him was on J.J. Abrams Star Trek.

Unstoppable is about a train that gets accidentally put into motion through a series of oversights and miscalculations.

What was called a coaster, which is a train that is free rolling and expected to stop in a few miles on its own due to wheel friction.  But because the engine was set to full to push this half-mile long train, it does not stop, but rather, continues to accelerate.  Thus, we have a run-away train.

An engineer, Frank (Washington); and Will (Pine), a conductor, find themselves in the right place and right time to be able to attempt to help stop the train.

And we go from there.

To be honest when I saw the trailers for Unstoppable, I thought it looked interesting, but just how much can they do with two guys and an out of control train?  Turns out there’s quite a bit that can be done with it.  Throughout the movie, we’re introduced to not only the characters, but we learn about their some of their lives as we move along with the story.

It was a nice addition of subtle details about the characters.

We won’t learn too much about the intrinsic operational details of the day-to-day details of operating trains, but we see enough to get a taste of the processes involved in the industry.  It was interesting.

The story was rather engaging and I found myself actually worrying for characters and situations.  It was a fun flick, that’s for sure.

Movie Review Popcorn Score 09For this movie review of Unstoppable, if I were to rate this movie, I’d give it a 9 out of 10 on my popcorn scale.  It’s a very worthy rental or if you’re a fan of any of the cast, Washington, Pine or Dawson, you won’t be disappointed.
