The Avengers

the avengers - captain america

If you have not heard, it seems like The Avengers movie is going to be presented to the movie-goer from the perspective of Steve Rogers, aka, Captain America.

Which might make sense, since in the comics, Captain America led the Avengers.

It will be interesting as Joss Whedon has brought ensembles to the fans before and how he’s choosing to bring the narrative to the movie-goer now.

I’m looking forward to The Avengers.

The Dark Knight Rises

Christian Bale in The Dark Knight Rises

Did you know that some screenings of The Dark Knight Rises have already sold out?  Yep… the movie doesn’t come out until July, but Fandango has been selling tickets to the movie already.  This has culminated in the sell-outs of midnight screenings of The Dark Knight Rises in New York and Los Angeles.

Boo… if you life in LA or NY.

It seems that while the IMAX screenings of the 6-minute prologue of TDKR with Mission Impossible played, theater owners were conducting surveys to see who might be interested in buying the midnight screenings.

Of course, these were easy targets.  They dropped extra bucks on the IMAX Mission Impossible to see the prologue.  So it was a skewed survey… or easy consumer targets!

After that, Fandango started selling the tickets to the midnight screenings of the movie.

It makes sense… with all the hoopla and propaganda that’s been all over the internet.

I totally expect this Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Charles Roven produced flick to be pretty good…  but I’ve also been leary of movies that have so much marketing on the “street” before release.

21 Jump Street

The other day I finally caught (accidentally) a movie trailer for the remake of 21 Jump Street.  I’ve not been super interested in the movie, from day one…  it was a police procedural TV series from 1987 that was helmed by Stephen J. Cannell.  It starred Johnny Depp, Peter DeLuise, Holly Robinson Peete and such.  It ran for five seasons, so it has a good, built in fan base.

Then when I heard it was being made into a movie, it didn’t really catch my attention.  I thought, “Huh, another remake.  Go figure.”

So I’ve actively ignored most news of this new movie.  The new 21 Jump Street remake is due out on March 16th, and I finally caught a movie trailer.

It’s directed by Phil Lord & Chris Miller.  Yes, 2 directors.  They both have the TV series, How I Met Your Mother under their resume belts.

Cast includes Johnny Depp reprising his old role (Not sure if it’s a quickie cameo or part of the movie), Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill and more.

I swear, before knowing what it was, I thought it was another version, remake or sequel for Police Academy.  I’m not impressed, considering it seems they’re taking this remake down the comedic route rather than the serious route the TV series took, but then again, I guess that would make this a “fresh take” on the franchise.

Check out the movie trailer for the movie, tell me what you think…

This Means War

Starring Chris Pine, Tom Hardy and Reese Witherspoon… with other cast appearances of Smallville‘s Laura Vandervoort, and Emilie Ullerup.  This Means War is directed by McG.

This sort of looks fun…
