MTV’s ‘Teen Wolf’ Premiere – TV Review Observations

When I first saw the trailer for MTV’s Teen Wolf, it looked pretty fun. I’ve been waiting for this show to premiere for some time to see how it will really be. In a nutshell, it was just OK.

Tyler Hoechlin, Tyler Posey, Holland Roden, Colton Haynes and Crystal Reed in Teen Wolf

But if there’s one thing that worries me about any television show premiere episode, it’s how fast it moves story details along to give you as much information as possible in a condensed amount of time.

In the first, 10, maybe 15 minutes of Teen Wolf, we learned every single thing about Scott (Tyler Posey), struggling athlete, asthmatic with a hyper worried friend, Stiles (Dylan O’Brien) and picked on student in school.

Even after he gets bitten by Derek Hale (Tyler Hoechlin), Scott’s buddy, Stiles, deduces it’s a werewolf bite… and we still had around 40 or so minutes to go in the episode.

After he gets bitten, things start changing… some for the not so good, some for the better. His athletic abilities and other senses heigthen but he has other problems, like the seamless scene where he’s in bed, rolls over into leaves outside. We’ve just experienced a pretty neat transition.

Of course he meets a girl, Allison (Crystal Reed), who gets his blood pumping… and in this rendition of the werewolf mythos, an accelerated pulse is not a good thing. It can trigger a transformation.

MTV's Teen Wolf

Overall, it’s OK. Some things move pretty quickly, predictably while the visuals are entertaining. And of course, there seem to be a sufficient number of shirtless scenes that will make the female demographic swoon and the male demographic want to add a few sit-ups to their routine.

TV Review Score 06Overall, I give MTV’s Teen Wolf a 6 on my TV Scale.
