ESPN did a special (tearful) segment on Victory Junction Camp and how it was an inspirational idea that Adam Petty started with his family.
Patty Petty was referencing how the CFO of Petty Enterprises at the time, said that the project would bankrupt Petty Enterprises. So much for his humanitarianism.
He became the first-time 4th generation Cup driver when he joined the ranks of the Sprint (Then Winston) Cup Series mere weeks before heading to New Hampshire.
It was with great sadness that Adam Petty passed away after an accident at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in 2000 and thereafter, his father, Kyle Petty took over his son’s car # and drove that # in Adam’s memory. When he raced at New Hampshire, Kyle would run the car in a black paint scheme.
