Goodyear Tire Tests in NASCAR

In NASCAR, there are some questions as to whether the Goodyear tire tests are fair since some drivers get to participate in the tests and others don’t.

Those who participate in tire tests have a distinct advantage in spending a whole day setting up their chassis on new tire compounds that they’ll be competing on later.  While a few selected teams get the opportunity to test,  other teams will only get practice time on the tires on the weekend of the race.

Sure, there’s an advantage but any athlete that has had years of insight & experience and is backed by big bucks also have an advantage.

But they’re backed by the big bucks and the sponsors because they have proven themselves to be winners and such, the notoriety from their success has given them this edge.  But they already had that edge and showed up while coming up through the ranks.

As it stands, Jimmie Johnson has said that despite participating in the tests of the new tire, they still found that their setup from the spring is better suited for this weekend’s upcoming race.  (Jim Utter Tweet)
