NASCAR News: Travis Pastrana

If you were hoping to catch the X Games athlete, Travis Patstrana, break out a new gig this year in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, don’t hold your breath.

NASCAR news and opinion

Pastrana Waltrip Racing announced that due to his recent injury, Travis is now looking at 2012 for the year to break into the Nationwide Series.  His injury involved a broken foot and ankle, in which he received during an X Game compeition in Loas Angeles a few weeks ago.  He had surgery on his injury last week.

Travis Pastrana said in the team release that it would make more sense to wait until the 2012 season than to push for a late season, minimal race schedule, late in 2011.

His original schedule included seven Nationwide races in 2011 and notably, he finished sixth in the Toyota All-Star Showdown at Irwindale Speedway, on Jan 29.

He is planning on a testing regime prior to jumping into the Nationwide Series, though in my mind, I don’t think it would be a bad idea to jump into a race or two as the season winds down.  It would give him a leg up, so to speak, on what to expect in 2012.
