NASCAR Bits & Pieces NB&P Mini Logo - cleaner

UPDATED 2/11/10:

It’s official gang!  NASCAR has mandated that now under the green-white-checkered race finishes, we will have 3 attempts to finish a race before they call it under yellow.

I’ve quietly applauded the GWC efforts last year as it extended the number of finishes under green, for sure.  And yet, despite the GWC, we still did have a few yellow flag finishes.

Then again, some tracks this just might be overkill, for sure.

Regardless, this will definitely extend the possibility of having green flag finishes….   or generate more sheet metal for me to buy off of eBay from the shops.  Either way, I see it as a good thing for the sport and the fans of the sport.

Original article:

NB&P’s heard that NASCAR is asking teams about the possibility of changing the Green / White / Checkered (GWC) rule for race ends.

The premise is that rather than one attempt at a GWC try, the initial thought is to take as many as needed and we could see this rule modification as early as the Gatorade Duels!

Me, I’m all for trying for more than once at the checkered flag.  NASCAR wants to see races end under green…  but I think they need to possibly add cap to the number of retries…  otherwise some races might become fuel mileage races if we had too many retries!!!

NB&P heard this on SIRIUS, Dave Moody.  Thanks to the man for the news!

Oh I am loving’ this possibility! Hopefully this will be in effect by the time I climb up to my seat tomorrow at the Speedway! I think that it will definitely add some more excitement to the end of the race.
Maybe limit the restarts to 3-5. Unfortunately that will increase the cost of sheet metal for the team owners!!
