iRacing NASCAR Series

NASCAR is creating an online racing series in conjunction with iRacing.com.

February 9th is the premiere, or innaugural date for a season that consists of 18 races over a 39 week period, called the NASCAR iRacing Drivers World Championship.

iRacing is an online league which is an extension of my all-time favorite video game called NASCAR Racing 2003 Season (NR2k3).

Online, iRacing is allowing the 50 top-rated drivers from their higher ranked series to compete.

Dang, dang, dang.*

iRacing says that the online service is not that expensive and that all you need is a broadband connection and an inexpensive wheel-and-pedal set and you can be up and running in an hour.

Obviously you have to put some time into the league to qualify, get rated and be one of the  top 50 rated drivers.

The online leagues feature modifieds, late models, NASCAR Truck Series, Nationwide and Cup Series cars and the leagues reflect the kill ladder experienced to get to the top tier leagues.

Regarding “dang.”:

If I wasn’t so busy, I’d jump all over this.  I used to be pretty decent in my online leagues a few years back.

I’m almost tempted…   it would mean less opinion and news coverage on many fronts, but if there were prize funds involved…   hmm.

Oh… PS:  Dale Jr. is in the iRacing.com league.

NASCAR Bits and Pieces Opinion:

Yes, you can quickly be up and running with an inexpensive steering wheel but if you do your homework and you’re serious about this venture, you might consider a bit more expensive wheel / pedal combo.  The more expensive setups are finely tuned and more responsive to subtle control inputs.  In the long run, as you improve, you’ll want that responsiveness.  I use a Momo Steering wheel setup.
