NASCAR: Reducing Restrictor Plate Sizes

NASCAR Logo - National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing - 550wI can only surmise that NASCAR is reducing the size of the restrictor plates in response to Carl Edwards incident that took place at the Talladega Superspeedway.

I get the reaction that NASCAR is taking.  It’s a valid response

But when does it stop?

If they make an adustment to the cars everytime something happens, we’re going to be seeing speeds around soapbox derby car speeds.

Sure, we’re slowing them down.  Sure, publicly it looks good.  But these cars can still catch air and get airborne regardless.  It will just depend on the odd angles that get created in any new event.  And even if you do slow them down, even at 100 mph, they can still catch air.

It’s a mixed bag of nuts here and as it stands, NASCAR is taking the appropriate precautions.

Now I just can’t wait to hear from the drivers about this as I’m sure it will pull the pack together even tighter now.
