NASCAR News:

In a sad bit of racing news, Dover Motorsports, the organization that owns Nashville Superspeedway, has announced that it will not be picking up any race dates for the 2012 NASCAR season for Nashville.

NASCAR news and opinion

Nashville is yet another of many Dover owned facilities that has been closed by the organization in St. Louis and Memphis.  They’ve also been having attendance issues for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series events at Dover itself.

The org said that for them to have been viable at Nashville, they needed a Cup date and did not get it.  (So instead, Kentucky and it’s traffic woes gets a date?  Just thinking out-loud.)

This track has been having NASCAR events since 2001, including a pair of Nationwide events each year since 2002.

In this economic time, it is no surprise that facilities are taking hits.  Despite valiant (I presume) efforts to keep facilities like Nashville afloat, closures are inevitable.  Nashville has been a mainstay of the Nationwide Series and was a fun event to watch.  Not to mention the cool trophy race winners would receive.

But for now, race fans can only hope that maybe, just maybe, Nashville Superspeedway can somehow find its way back into the schedule in 2013 or sometime after that.

My only interest in Nascar lately is the truck races. Dodge is the only CAR that is anywhere near what they sell to the public. All the others are sold as front drive 4 or 6 cylinder mounted sideways. At least the Dodge is still sold as an inline mounted rear drive V8 and is similar at least in concept to the racecar. I have been a Ford fan since I was a teenager, but since the Fusion is nowhere near what is sold in the dealerships I have lost interest.
