NBC’s Olympic Tape Delay Ticks The U.S. Off – U.S. Skating Coverage

Over the last few days, I’ve been hearing noise from Twitter and the Internet in general about the tape delays that NBC has evoked on the viewer.

It makes sense. Keep the viewers trapped to the specific time frame so they can claim ratings victories over prime time. They really need that, what with the Conan O’Brien and Jay Leno debacle. (Nope, not gonna let you forget that one!)

But here I am… sitting here, knowing a few things about what’s going on tonight.

Tonight, here on the West Coast, we wait for the Men’s Free Skate. The focus of the world of skating fans is (was) on Evan Lysacek, Plushekno & Johnny Weir.

We know the took place at 5 pm. our time, (If my source was correct) in Vancouver. The telecast started here at 8 p.m.. And it seems that NBC milking us for all we’re worth while while we watch the 1/2 pipe Women’s Snowboarding. All the while, I’m watching the Twitter feed of East Coast Tweeters rally on about the competition.

You have to love the acting put on by the NBC reporters. While we were away, this happened. Let’s now go back to the action on the blah blah.

On top of the Leno debacle, NBC’s sole ownership of the television rights to the Olympics is annoying everyone. They know they have no competition and don’t need to cater to what we need or want.

Me, I’m tired. I’ll DVR the skating and watch it later.

If you want to stay up until 11:30 p.m. here on the West Coast, don’t read any farther… But thanks to the East Coast Tweeters and MSN.com for all the info ahead of time, sort of. Even if the skaters may have already gone to bed by now!

  • Evan Lysacek – Gold;
  • Yevgeny – Bronze,
  • Daisuke Takahashi – Silver.

(Johnny Weir – 6th. And let me tell you, over 700 tweets in about a second came flying over the Twitter ways when he was scored… almost everyone to a tee said he was ripped off in the scoring.)

Olympic Results. (FROM NBC!!!!)
