Mark Harmon, Sean Murray, Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo in the NCIS season finale

Spoilers are abound if you have DVR’d this episode for some time-shifted viewing. You’ve been warned!

The season finale episode of NCIS, titled “Till Death Do Us Part,” recapped a few key events from previous episodes that led up to tonight and Leon Vance (Rocky Carroll) was located pretty quickly after disappearing last episode. It was a message…

As the NCIS team chases leads, only to be tripped up again and again, they don’t get too far until they look to use Jonathan Cole (Scott Wolf) to bait Harper Dearing (Richard Schiff) into dealing with him.

In the meantime, Dearing manages to take Samantha Ryan (Jamie Lee Curtis) out of the picture by managing to get her ex-husband released from prison. Between his little phone call to her about her son, and this, she uncharacteristically comes undone. She is out of the picture as she collects her kid and disappears to stay safe from her ex. (Whatever that means.)

And suddenly, the team comes to the conclusion that kidnapping Leon wasn’t about the man, but his car. No one dissected/processed the car when Leon showed back up.

As the episode comes to a close, the NCIS team is trying to evacuate the building and Cole is attempting to disarm the bomb in the back of Leon’s car, but the phone it’s attached to rings and the car explodes.

We see scenes of team members scrambling to take cover during the explosion. The scene cuts away.

Ducky (David McCallum) is on the beach and receives a phone call. He tells the caller to not touch any of the dead bodies and he’ll be right in…

Except during the phone call, he appears to have a heart attack and collapses on the beach.

Cut away.

In what could truly be called an emotional season finale closing scene, aka, cliff hanger, watching Ducky collapse on the beach had more of an impact than I would have possibly imagined.

NCIS star, Mark Harmon in the 9th season finale

Throughout this entire season I’ve been tormented by the presence of Samantha Ryan. Always holding back info that Gibbs (Mark Harmon) could use on occasion was driving me nuts.

Their relationship never really worked for me and, on a personal note, did it drive you nuts that she used to look up at Gibbs as if her contacts were bifocals? I can’t explain it, but it was driving me buggy!!! I haven’t looked around too hard, but I’ve not seen any supportive statements from fans on the character. It’s a weird one for Curtis… I usually like her but she’s doing a good job making me NOT like her.

So this season we did not get to watch Jimmy Palmer (Brian Dietzen) marry his sweetheart, Breena (Michelle Pierce) yet. He did not want to go through with the ceremony while his family, the team, weren’t there. Good call buddy! But dang… did he land a looker or what?

But I’m also worried. Have we ever seen anyone in the show pull off a decent relationship without something going awry?

This was a good season of NCIS, its 9th… As usual.

=

And, in regards to the fans ongoing concern about Sean Murray’s health, I have to say that through the season, he seemed to get stronger and more lively, though his voice still seems a bit scratchy. But that could be anything at this point. Heck, my asthma meds make me sound like I’m dying, with that same raspy voice sound.

An NCIS Season 10 Spoiler (slight)

(Highlight the text with your mouse if you want to see this)

-Ducky went down on the beach, looking like an apparent heart attack. It freaked me out, but what calmed me down was knowing that David McCallum had signed a two-year contract extension mere weeks ago.

So breath easy.

Mark Harmon, Cote de Pablo already reupped.

But it seems that Michael Weatherly, Sean Murray, & Pauley Perrette are still playing hard ball with the contractual negotiations. This seems to be a recurring theme! I hope they don’t price themselves out of the park!

I mean, the building did explode, so it would be easy enough to write them out!

Need to beef up on NCIS‘s Gibbs Rules? Thought you’d like that.
