This weekend we see a few new movies coming at us on Friday, the 3rd and some smaller flicks gracing some screens on Wednesday. The opening movies on Friday bring us the likes of Natalie Portman, Jim Carrey and Kate Bosworth and the movies include Black Swan, I Love You Phillip Morris and The Warrior’s Way. Below is my list of new movies for Friday and any Fandango link will take you to their site and you can check out movie times as well.
Last weekend’s Box Office
The Box Office Weekend for Thanksgiving saw a close monetary battle for the title of box office winner and seriously, in the overall scheme of things, it was a tie and we need a recount!
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows Part 1 brought in $49.1M and Tangled pulled in $48.8M. with the movies being so close in numbers, you might want to look underneath all the math and notice that Tangled was in fewer theaters in it’s premiere week while Harry Potter was in its second week of airing. Tangled averaged $13.5K per theater while Harry Potter, $11.9K. Looks like in my book, technically, Tangled won this one!
Behind these two mega-hits in the theaters was Megamind, pulling in $12.6M, Burlesque in its premiere week, $11.9, Love and Other Drugs $9.7M while Dwayne Johnson’s action thriller Faster, from CBS films, only pulled in $8.5M.
The real winner for the week was the Colin Firth starrer titled The King’s Speech, from The Weinstein Company. It pulled in almost $89k per theater… OK, OK… it was only in 4 theaters. This was it’s National release after appearing in various film festivals since September and it stormed all four theaters in it’s U.S. opening. Wooht!
Remember, for these opening weekend numbers, these are five-day numbers… not two or three.

New Movies for Friday, December 3rd
-
Black Swan cast includes Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis, Vincent Cassel, Winona Ryder and Human Target’s Janet Montgomery in a flick about the relationship between a ballet dancer and her rival.
It’s from the same guys who brought us the Mickey Rourke movie, The Wrestler. Directed by Darren Aronofsky (The Wrestler, The Fountain. Upcoming: The Wolverine) and written by Mark Heyman (The Wrestler) & Andres Heinz.
The Wrestler was a captivating story of a depressing, realistic flow of life. If they could do that to me, I’m betting there’s a good chance this won’t suck!

I Love You Phillip Morris stars Jim Carrey & Ewan McGregor about a man whose life is in a dramatic reassessment brought on by a car accident.
Written & directed by Glenn Ficarra (Bad Santa, Cats & Dogs franchise movies) & John Requa (Bad Santa, Cats & Dogs franchise).
Huh… I’m thinking a dramatic comedy that will appeal to anyone who is a fan of either actor with the creative pedigree (no pun intended) to pull it off! And a very daring set of roles for the two actors. It should be a serious load of fun!

The Warrior’s Way has had a lot of buzz generated as some of my online brethren have gone a bit bonkers saying how cool this looks… while I might have been a bit more reserved about this action flick. The cast includes Kate Bosworth, Geoffrey Rush, Danny Huston and Dong-gun Jang.
It’s written and directed by Sngmoo Lee, who has no other credits under his name. It will be all on the cast and editors to pull this off, if it even lifts off! We’ll see.

If you’re a Lee Majors fan, he’s found himself a role in a small movie opening on Wednesday, Dec 1st called Corruption.Gov, where Majors stars alongside Michael Madsen. It’s directed by Q. Manning & John Sjogren (The Ascent, The Bank Job).
Joining that flick is Visible Scars with another fave of mine, starring Tom Sizemore, Jillian Murray and Hanna Hall.
If for some reason you’re missing Billy Zane, you can catch him in The Kill Hole, where he stars alongside Chadwick Bosemana and Tory Kittles & Peter Greene.
If you’re a Tony Todd fan, you can catch him in another Wednesday opening movie called Dream in American.
