Ever since District 9, I’ve become a Neill Blomkamp fan. Plain and simple.
I’ve become somewhat of a digital stalker since seeing District 9 and found some early work of his that I’d like to share & point you to. I’ve already shown you his short that was the inspiration for District 9.
As you can see, or at least what I feel I’m seeing, is that amongst the big events in his works, he loves touching on the underlying humanity or emotional aspects of the characters in a film and he does it well with visual, music and story elements.
Tidbit: Did you know that Peter Jackson asked Neill to do a 2nd short film predecessor to D-9 as a demo reel for the financiers of D9? Apparently we’re not going to see that one quite yet, but I do have a couple of vids of his that you can check out.
Check it out after the break.

Or, check out his vision of a Halo 3 – again, it’s about the human build up to an event we don’t see. It’s only a vision, not a real Halo 3 effort gang:

Over at SciFiSquad , they have a vid play list of different videos Neil has directed or created and you might find a familiar television commercial or two amongst them. He really has a thing for evolving robots. And though that’s an old theme, what little I’ve seen has captured my imagination and I would happily see any project of his again.
In fact, I’d love it if someone let him reboot the Terminator franchise, but from Skynet’s perspective. The way Neill Blomkamp tells stories, you’d be feeling sorry for Skynet about halfway through the damn movie! (Tidbit: Did you know that Skynet is also a UK military communications system? Wikipedia)
