In early December 2010, Deadline reported that Neill Blomkamp was taking meetings with studios for a deal for his next science fiction movie, titled Elysium. Even though Sharlto Copley is in the movie, it is not a sequel to District 9, and is being distributed by Columbia Pictures and being produced by Media Rights Capital.
All we do have on Elsyium right now is that it is set in the far future and on another planet and tackles sociopolitical issues in the story telling all the while having a nice, calm (snark) violent undertone. (This was the plot floating about back in late 2010.)
We also know that Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, William Fichtner (C.S. fave), & Alice Braga are all onboard this Blomkamp written and directed movie project. Set design will be handled by Syd Mead. He’s the man behind the vision of Blade Runner‘s sets.
Filming for Elysium will reportedly kick in gear this summer.
