New DVD and Blu-ray releases this week

As you can see, this week in the new DVD/Blu-ray releases, there are many popular titles from TV this week coming out on May 28th, 2013. As you can see, leading the pack are a few very popular titles, with Matt Smith, Robert Taylor, Piper Parabo, and Gabriel Macht.

DVD/Blu-rays Coming Tuesday, May 28, 2013:

Doctor Who, Longmire, Covert Affairs and Suits on DVD

= = = = =

Doctor Who: Series Seven – Part Two (DVD)
Starring Matt Smith
(There are days the show makes sense, and there are days it starts out in what seems like a random story plot. But as you watch it, it can be rather riveting to see how the episode resolves. The 7th season finale was like that. You had to have faith in the start, and ride it out. But it was the culmination of a season long sub-plot. But be prepared for quite the ending to the season, if you can call it that.

The show pulls a rating of 8.7/10 from IMDb users.)

Longmire: The Complete First Season (DVD
Starring Robert Taylor, Lou Diamond Phillips, Katee Sackhoff
(This is a fantastic show about a down-to-earth, old school cop who can barely deal with the technology of cell phones… from the 80’s. But he’s an honest man who means to do the job right. Even if he has his own demons. The 2nd season of Longmire premieres on May 27th! It has a 7.7 on IMDb.)

Covert Affairs: Season Three (DVD)
Starring Piper Perabo, Christopher Gorham, Kari Matchett
(I find this series rather fascinating, as it explores the duplicitous lives of CIA agents. Particularly this new agent that Perabo plays. We follow her exploits as her career and personal life develop. I like the show.

It pulls a 7 on IMDb.)

Doctor Who: The Snowmen (DVD)

Suits: Season Two (DVD + UltraViolet)
Starring Gabriel Macht and Patrick J. Adams
(Never watched it, but it has an 8.8 on IMDb)

Bubble Guppies: Sunny Days!
(This kids show franchise has a 7.5 on IMDb, but there aren’t a huge number of reviewers who have ranked it.)

George Gently, Series Five
(This series is rated at 7.6 on IMDb.)

Dark Skies
Starring Keri Russell, Jake Brennan, Josh Hamilton and Dakota Goyo.
(Rated on IMDb at a 6.1)

The Numbers Station
Starring John Cusack, Malin Akerman, Liam Cunningham
(IMDb score of 5.3. You be the judge. Bummer too, I like most of Cusack’s work.)

The Complete Series
Starring Stephen Ouimette and Alyson Court
(Surprisingly, this TV series ranks with a 7.4 on IMDb)

Brusimm Quickie Opinion (BQO): No, I’m not fond of this kind of tactic where seasons are split up and more money is made for a distributor. In the “Good ‘Ol Days,” a season was a season and released as such. But until consumers actually unite and boycott these practices, they will keep happening. And frankly, well, we want what we want. And we usually want it now. So if anything, this will keep on going and who knows. It might even get worse!

Some call it corporate greed, others call it a good business eye towards creating profit.

While many will call it greed, you have to stop and see that the studios and distributors have employees across all levels of their organizations that like their jobs, do good jobs and stay within the organization for a long period of time. That requires salaries with annual pay raises. Yes, the little guy under the those big named corporate names.

At least that’s one angle on the issue.

Titles coming out on June 11th:

Oz the Great and Powerful
Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters
