Welcome to the New DVD Release Report for the week of June 8th, 2010 from Cinema Static. The year’s half over and the big release this week is Shutter Island. The Scorsese thriller hits DVD and Blu-ray this week along with a new season of Showtime’s Curb Your Enthusiasm. Blu-ray releases this week also provide some gems, so read on if you must.
DVD Movie of The Week:
My pick this week in DVD goes out to Shutter Island. It’s definitely on my horizon. Honorable mention goes out to, Holyman Undercover.
DVD TV Series / Documentary of the Week:
My TV pick this week is, Monty Python’s, Not The Messiah! The Dire Straits concert fiasco, “Alchemy Live” is also on my list! If your a fan of The A-Team, you may want to pick up the “Complete Series” in a limited edition set release coming out in conjunction with the new film.

Rental / Used DVD of the Week:
My used /rental DVD of the week is the 2006 horror film based on the video game Silent Hill.
In a desperate attempt to cure her adopted daughter Sharon from deadly bouts of sleep walking, Rose leaves to find the town Sharon calls to in her nightmares, Silent Hill. On the way she attracts the attention of a police officer and runs into an unexpected road block. Seems the town has a deadly history and nobody gets out alive.
Even though this horror film was based on a video game it’s a very adult cinematic experience. The visuals are spectacular, and the cinematography is long and drawn out. The details and atmosphere are exactly like the game in its rich tapestry of decay. I found myself appreciating the visuals as much as the story and there is a pretty decent one in there. At just over 2 hours, an R rating and a cool soundtrack, Silent Hill is hypnotic, disturbing and the creepiest ghost town you never want to stop at. Not for the kids!!!
