Welcome to the New DVD Release report from Cinema Static for the week of May 11th, 2010. The so called big release’s this week are Mel Gibson’s, “Edge of Darkness.” ”Legion” the angel action horror film and “Daybreakers,” this months vampire flick. Can you tell I’m a fan?

Sorry I don’t have a pick this week. Look at what I’ve got to work with here. “Megafault,” “Legend of the Tsunami Warrior” and “Malice in Wonderland” to name a few. I could throw a dart, but I’d just be faking it.
DVD TV SERIES/DOCUMENTARY OF THE WEEK
My TV DVD pick of the week is, “The Beatles: Behind The Curtain.” I’m looking forward to this documentary about the Fab Four! Should be loaded with footage, and a must for all Beatles fans! I also want to check out, Ozzy Osbourne’s “Crazy World.”
BLU-RAY PICK OF THE WEEK
Mel Brook’s “High Anxiety” is my Blu-ray pick of the week. A very funny film. “Hang Um High” and another Brook’s film, “Robin Hood Men In Tights” also get honorable mentions.
There’s almost as many Blu-ray releases this week as there are films. I guess this Blu-ray fad is catching on. Here’s this weeks list.

RENTAL/USED DVD OF THE WEEK TO AVOID
Its been a Ghost Hunters weekend, the only film I was able to watch was, “Armored” starring Matt Dillon, Jean Reno and Laurence Fishburne. The film starts off with a great premise. An armored truck crew hijacks their own cargo. Will they get away with it? Is there a really cool chase? I love those!
Everything was going great until the film’s second act when Ty, played by Columbus Short can’t deal with the accidental killing of an innocent (homeless man) witness, so he decides to implode the entire operation as well as destroy the pace and momentum of the film.
I was so upset I with how the story had shifted that I ejected the DVD and didn’t finish it. Frustrating writing!! Avoid this film, its got some great wide shots but the story takes a major dump just when you expect it to take off…

NEXT WEEK IN DVD/BLU-RAY
Wow, next week has some major stinkers flying at us. “The Spy Next Door,” “Valentines Day,” and “Extraordinary Measures.” Woody Harrelson may save the week with his latest, “The Messenger.” On Blu-ray, “Carlito’s Way” finally arrives as well as the science fiction film, “Outlander.” Until then see you at the DVD store, I’ll be the guy wearing nose plugs.
