New DVD and Blu-ray releases this week

This week in new home entertainment releases, we have the voice power of a very young Rod Taylor leading the charge in the silver… no, strike that, the “Diamond” edition of the 1961 Disney classic… whle we also get a popular dramatic film with Alan Powell, a new film from Jake Gyllenhaal and a few older projects. 101 Dalmatians: Diamond Edition – 1961

As you can see over 600 Amazon customers have chimed in over the years to give this film a 4.5 out of 5 user rating. The sheer number of users chiming in is a good thing, I would think. Diamond edition, well, I wonder how many precious stone labels they have for each new rendition of this favorite family classic?

The Song

Here’s a film that has resonated well with the Amazon buying audience, netting almost a perfect 5 out of 5.

Star Wars Rebels Volume 1

Finally on ‘instant video,’ I’ve been watching this new Disney animated Star Wars series and once you get used to the entirely new line up of characters out to squash the empire, it not only grows on you, but it is becoming an animated favorite of mine and is a fine replacement for Cartoon Network’s Clone Wars series.

Nightcrawler

It seems that this Jake Gyllenhaal film is approved by the fans, having netted 4.5 stars.

Z Nation: Season 1

Quite a few folks have chimed in to score this Syfy series with an above average rating of this ‘Walking Dead’ shuffle-alike TV series. I’m sure it is not meant to truly contend with TWD, but for a Syfy series, it isn’t horrible. In fact on occassion, I find myself wondering what will happen next in the story.

3.6 out of 5 stars
