Hey gang, this week, new movies opening in theaters this Friday, February 8th, are a bit limited but still peppered with a few popular actors. There’s Jason Bateman, Rooney Mara, Channing Tatum and Tom Cruise in a classic that’s revisiting theaters in the IMAX 3D format.

Identity Thief
Jason Bateman and Melissa McCarthy lead the cast in Identity Thief, where Bateman’s character flies to Miami to confront a woman whose stolen his identity and living the high life off his name!
Other cast includes Jon Favreau, Amanda Peet, Robert Patrick and the gorgeous Genesis Rodriguez.
This comedy is directed by Seth Gordon, whose also helmed movies like Horrible Bosses and Four Christmases. Rumor-news says he’s also lined up and working on projects like WarGames (remake?) & Horrible Bosses 2. Hey, how many bosses can you kill off?
Identity Thief is rated R and runs 1 hour, 51 minutes.

Side Effects
With a cast like Rooney Mara, Jude Law, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Channing Tatum, it’s hard to imagine a movie that might not be an engaging movie experience.
In Side Effects, Rooney and Channing play a successful New York couple, whose very existence gets pretty messed up with Rooney’s psychiatrist prescribes her a drug that has some trippy and unexpected side effects!
This thriller movie is directed by Steven Soderbergh whose past credits include Magic Mike, Haywire, and Contagion. So he’s got the chops to tackle this kind of story line. It sounds pretty exciting to me.
Side Effects is rated R and runs 1 hr and 45 minutes.

Top Gun
Yes… I said Top Gun is coming to theaters. It’s the IMAX 3D re-release of the Tom Cruise staring movie, where you get to see what Tom, Val Kilmer and Kelly McGillis looked like, back in the day.
Directed by the late, great Tony Scott, this movie has been rated by IMDb users at a 6.7/10 and has grossed $345M worldwide. Not bad for 1986 dollars!
I remember loving this film in its day, and even though I’m not prone to drop bucks on 3D re-releases, I bet it would be fun to watch in 3D.
