This Friday, the new movies coming out on July 27th, 2012 include some dancing and some neighborhood watch dudes (Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn) fighting of an alien menace.
A little farther down I also touch on the big box office numbers from The Dark Knight Rises and some production status states of different movies.

• Step Up Revolution
This movie is not in my genre of interest, but it’s produced by Adam Shankman (So You Think You Can Dance) and the cast includes Kathryn McCormick & Ryan Guzman.
“Emily arrives in Miami with aspirations to become a professional dancer. She sparks with Sean, the leader of a dance crew whose neighborhood is threatened by Emily’s father’s development plans. “
It’s direceted by Scott Speer, whose credits include a few projects with The LXD: The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers, and that is something incredible to see, if you’ve ever caught this group’s work.

• The Watch
This movie, from the trailers, looks like it could be pretty fun. With Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Johan Hill and Richard Ayoade, we will be treated to a few guys taking up the mantle of a neighborhood watch. But they seem to encounter something more when they have to tackle actual aliens.
It’s directed by Akiva Schaffer (Saturday Night Live, MacGruber) and the script is culled from the combined grey matter of Jared Stern, Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg.
It should be fun and I’m tempted to actually go catch a comedy in the theater!

The Box Office
So The Dark Knight Rises finally opened and has mustered up an cool $180M domestically and $300M worldwide! And that’s all in 2D baby!!! Christopher Nolan can write his own ticket and won’t do 3D and just for that, we should do our best to support quality work without gimmick screenings!
So far, The Amazing Spider-Man has grossed $230M, Brave had domestically netted $210M.
But of that $300M for TDKR, I wonder how much of that comes from the over-inflated IMAX ticket prices? I’m just saying.
