The Thundercats world of fans are probably getting pretty excited right now.  According to the ThunderCats Lair, they have a script in hand from Paul Sopocy (It’s Alive).  If you read very carefully, they call it a draft of the movie, a movie that’s on hold.  [[ Updated 6/2/10: After reading this article, check out the ThunderCats Cartoon Network Anime Series News!! ]]

A draft is just that, a draft, so I’m not getting too excited.  As much as I want to.  Those that have seen the script point out that there’s no Snarf.  To some, Snarf is the Ja Ja Binks of Thundercats.  I’m on the fence about him.

I’m also getting tired of getting too excited about seeing something I want to see.  Do you remember this misguided movie art for Thundercats, with Matthew McConaughey as Lion-O, Tea Leoni as Cheetarah, Ed Harris as Mumm-Ra, Wesley Snipes as Panthro and David Carradine as Tigra:

LOL, yea…  a very ambitious poster it was too.

Back in 2008, they were thinking there’s a 2010 release date.  Now, the publicly maintained IMDb site says 2012.  Some poor sap is going in there and tormenting us by changing the release date every year.  I don’t think I like that person!  LOL.

There has even been some concept art floating around out there:

But here’s the gem of “art,” where a highly skilled artist put Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Premiere to good use.

THUNDERCATS YouTube Cast of Characters

Was it last year?  A fan created a fantastic trailer for the Thundercats…  The first Thundercats picture in this article is a snap shot from that video.

Check it out.  If you even have an inkling for the old cartoon series, this video hits it on the nose.  It has over 4 million hits, so there would seem to be 1 or 2 fans!:

Pretty hot, huh?  If you start thinking you recognized movie scenes, yes, you did.  They were (10,000BC, Masters of the Universe, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Lord of The Rings: Return of the King, Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars, Chronicles of Riddick, Pitch Black, X2:X-men United, X-men:The Last Stand, Troy, Star Trek6: The undiscovered Country, Space Hunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone, Stargate, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie, Garfield, Enemy Mine, Spykids, Underworld, The Mummy, The Mummy Returns, Galaxy Quest, John Carpenter’s Ghosts of Mars, Planet of the Apes, Aliens, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, Reign of Fire, Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome.)

For gods sake, someone give this guy some money and set them free to make a movie…  We’re tired of waiting and it seems they’ve done more than anyone else has!

Wouldn’t it be great if an indie studio stepped up?  Eh, it will never happen.  Warners Bros owns the rights.  Would you give them up?  Yea, neither would I.
