News On The Ridley Scott Alien Origins Movie ‘Prometheus’

'Prometheus' from Ridley Scott fan made Movie PosterI know that Ridley Scott has tried to distance his latest Alien movie, Prometheus, from the title/name of Alien.  Fans at first heard about this project as a trilogy prequel for Alien but then Ridley Scott just wanted this project to stand on its own and call it Prometheus and declared that it won’t be a prequel.

Yet Prometheus will have story details concerning the space jockey and we’re going to be treated to what amounts to information on the DNA of the Aliens themselves.

Mr. Scott has been quoted to jokingly say:

“It’s the story of creation, the gods and the man who stood against them. It’s not a small film”

From what I’m seeing and if I’m taking away what I think I am from this distancing, then I’m going to refer to Prometheus as an Alien origins film.  I think Mr. Scott is playing nuances against the term prequel.   So there, as far as I know, you’ve heard it here first, more or less!

Right now the cast of Prometheus includes Noomi Rapace, Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender with the rumored additions of Idris Elba, Scoot McNairy, Sean Harris, and Katie Dickie.

While cast members have reportedly signed some form of a secrecy clause to not talk about Prometheus, Michael Fassbender has said/confirmed that Prometheus is not an Alien prequel but rather, a different story with the traditional roots that Alien fans will recognize.

He indicated there will be a link to that franchise/world.

Then we’ve heard word that the ‘space jockey is being designed as a large, eight-foot animatronic being designed under the guidance of HR Giger.

Along with the ‘space jockey’ we’ll also be seeing a ship piloted by a giant head.  (Argh!  Could Marvel’s Modok have infiltrated the movie?)

On the secrecy thing, it’s a shame that Ridley Scott has to go to such measures as to retain the script only in his office or in the one time it traveled, it had to have a security guard ride shotgun on it.  That says oodles about the folks in the industry who seem to be as much glam monsters as anyone else.

Prometheus hits theaters on June 8, 2012
