TV and Movie news and notes

Today’s notes include director comments about Captain America Three, the cancellation of Longmire from A&E, and new offerings this September 2014, from Amazon Prime and Netflix.

Captain America 3

In an interview with directors Joe and Anthony Russo, despite the premise that Marvel is trying to make their franchise movies a bit different with each sequel, have said that they hope to keep the next Captain America movie much the same in tone.

That tone?

My guess is the huge differences between the first and second film might have already seen that tone change from when Cap is first created then wakes up 70 years later in a new world that went on without him. His stern take on how Fury was running SHIELD, leading by fear  instead of policy, etc., etc.

Cap 3 is slated to start filming in April of 2014 and is looking at a May 2016 release date. ]

Deadline is reporting that (What I thought was) the popular Longmire series has been cancelled by A&E.

It was the networks most watched original drama series, and yet, they’re not renewing it.

The show averaged 6M viewers in season two, but only averaged 4.6M viewers in this last season.

Then again, in the world of TV ratings, it had a very weak lead-in this season, when it was preceded by repeats of Criminal Minds.

I’m thinking two things here that have no substance in fact:

Why set up the show for failure with a lackluster lead-in? Why dump the show in the middle of a fascinating powerful cliffhanger?

Did someone in the political background from the production tick off someone at the networks?

Or is this part of a plan for networks to own their own shows, and since this wasn’t theirs and A&E is leaning towards more of the reality show side of life, well…

Either way, on the bright side, the production company of Longmire has immediately started shopping the series out to other networks.

Do you know what my dream scenario would be for Longmire?  Have AMC pick it up and put Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan in charge!

No kidding Trina. There’s no real DISCOVERY channel, LEARNING channel or what not. It’s all reality and fictional fringe pieces. OMG, even Syfy had this BS show about aliens on the moon… AND THEY AIRED IT! So yea… TV is a slowly devolving into a wasteland of what the NIELSON families are dictating should air.

Sadly, there’s no Arts or Entertainment on A&E anymore. There are some days that I don’t mind the reality shows but canceling Longmire. Don’t get it.
