This week, we have a few opening movies coming up and one of them actually opens on an off-day, Wednesday. That’s the Vampires Suck parody that by the previews, looks funny. Whether it actually is or not, is another matter altogether.
But on Friday, August 20th, we have a few choice comedies or traumas, depending how you look at them.
Opening movies on Friday are Piranha 3D, The Switch, Nanny McPhee Returns & Lottery Ticket.

Piranha 3D
-
While Piranha 3D is a mainstream movie, it’s reminiscent of one of those entertaining (I did not say good) Syfy Channel Saturday Night Original movies.
I’m surprised though, at the cast of Piranha 3D, where it includes Elisabeth Shue, Eli Roth, Kelly Brook, Richard Dreyfuss, Ving Rhames, Christopher Lloyd, Jerry O’Connell & bunches more in what I’m calling the pack of mini-Jaws attacking scantily clad teens… yet again.
If anything, I’ve learned how to spell piranha over these last few months.

The Switch
-
Treading on potentially icky territory for but a moment, the previews from The Switch look to cover a hilarious angle on what I might call, misconception.
Starring Jason Bateman, Victor Pagan, Jennifer Aniston & Jeff Goldblum it looks at what happens when a 40-year-old woman turns to a turkey baster in order to become pregnant. Seven years later when she reunites with her best friend, we find out he’s been carrying around a big secret: he replaced her preferred sperm sample with his own.
And the potential comedy with the small child seems hilarious. “Oh my god, I have that!”

Nanny McPhee Returns
-
What looks like a great little movie for the entire family, Nanny McPhee Returns is about when Nanny McPhee helps a frantic mother who is trying to run the family farm while her husband is away at war. The Nanny uses her magic to teach the children and their spoiled cousins five new lessons in the process!
The cast includes Maggie Gyllenhaal, Maggie Smith, Emma Thompson, Ewan McGregor and more!

Lottery Ticket
-
Lottery Ticket is about a guy who has to survive a three day weekend after his opportunistic neighbors find out he’s holding a huge-valued winning lottery ticket.
The cast includes Terry Crews, Brandon T. Jackson, Keith David, Ice Cube, Bow Wow and many more.

Vampires Suck
-
Vampires Suck comes out today (Wednesday), and is a spoof on the vampire-themed movies, though specifically, it seems, from the movie trailers, that it’s picking on the Twilight Franchise. I don’t think Twilight is representative of the entire vampire franchise these days, but it is one we all think about. That and The Vampire Diaries. Though right now, I’m reading a pretty good vampire themed novel that I’ll be talking about sometime soon!
The cast of Vampire Sucks includes Matt Lanter, Christopher N. Riggi, Arielle Kebbel, Ken Jeong, Crista Flanagan and of course, the usual many more.
(I love the baseball bat scene.)
