Opening Movies for this Friday

For opening movies this week, we’re going to see an interesting battle of the fantasy films play out throughout the long holiday weekend as the opening movies aren’t really opening on Friday. (OMG, they keep messing with my Friday titled posts. It’s a conspiracy!)  We have coming at us The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, The Last Airbender, Leaves of Grass & Sinners & Saints.

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse

On Wednesday, June 30th, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, starring Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson opens at the box office.

The Last Airbender

On Thursday, July 1st, The Last Airbender hits the box office. It stars Noah Ringer as Aang, with Jackson Rathbone, Nicola Peltz & Dev Patel.

“The story follows the adventures of Aang, a young successor to a long line of Avatars, who must put his childhood ways aside and stop the Fire Nation from enslaving the Water, Earth and Air nations.”

Oh, look, a movie opening on Friday, the 2nd of July!

2009′s Leaves of Grass gets a national distribution on Friday.

Leaves of Grass is about “an Ivy League professor is lured back to his Oklahoma hometown, where his twin brother, a small-time pot grower, has concocted a scheme to take down a local drug lord.” It stars Edward Norton, Susan Sarandon & Melanie Lynskey.

Sinners & Saints

Sinners & Saints premieres at the Los Angeles Film Festival on Tuesday, June 29th. It stars Johnny Strong, Sean Patrick Flanery, Jolene Blalock, Kim Coates & Tom Berenger.

“In lawless storm ravaged New Orleans, beleaguered Detective Sean Riley is trying to cope with the death of his young son and the abandonment of his wife. Facing a probable suspension from the department, Riley is teamed with a young homicide Detective, Will Ganz, to help solve a series of brutal murders that have plunged the city into a major gang war.
