This week for opening movies, we finally get to see what I think are two fun, anticipated films for the summer. Robert Rodriguez’s Predators & Despicable Me. A quiet film that has been smothered by all the hype from these previous mentioned movies, is The Kids Are All Right.

Predators
Do I even need to note the movie summary? Sure, what the heck: A group of elite warriors are hunted by members of a merciless alien race known as Predators.
Predators stars Adrien Brody, Topher Grace, Alice Braga, Walton Goggins, Oleg Taktarov, Laurence Fishburne, Danny Trejo, et al.
Directed by Nimrod Antal (Armored, Vacancy).

Despicable Me
A trio of orphan girls cause the normally deplorable Gru to rethink his plan to steal the moon. (Dude, if you stole the moon, where would you keep it???)
Despicable Me stars the voice power of Steve Carrell, Jason Segel, Russell Brand, Miranda Cosgrove, et al.
Directed by Pierre Coffin, this is his first full movie he’s directed.

The Kids Are All Right
-
Two children conceived by artificial insemination bring their birth father into their family life.
The Kids Are All Right stars Julianne Moore, Annette Bening, Mark Ruffalo, Mia Wasikowska, Josh Hutcherson, et al.
Written & directed by Lisa Cholodenko (Laurel Canyon, High Art).

Next week, Inception has its Hollywood premiere next Tuesday and opens on Friday. We also see The Sorcerer’s Apprentice open on Wednesday. I don’t think a Wednesday opening date is going to help Disney’s movie up against Christopher Nolan’s big hitter. At least between last week, this week and next, we have a few weeks that will save the summer movie season.
