This week, we have 2 movies opening on Friday, March 5th. The Johnny Depp starrer Alice in Wonderland and the Richard Gere platform, Brooklyn’s Finest.
I’m worried about the Tim Burton / Johnny Depp flick. Johnny Depp fans are pretty happy to have a new project with Depp in it, but the previews all seem very 3D gimmicky. The makeup looks 3 dimensional as it is, the previews have a lot of scenes where things come at you or away from you. Scene props look stacked in odd fashions that would take advantage of 3D. Maybe they’re pushing to give it an over-the-top 3D experience. We’ll see.

• Alice in Wonderland

From Walt Disney Studios, this Tim Burton project stars Johnny Depp, Mia Wasikowska, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway and is a sequel to the original Alice in Wonderland where the now 19-year-old Alice returns to the magical world from her childhood adventure, where she reunites with her old friends and learns of her true destiny: to end the Red Queen’s reign of terror.

• Brooklyn’s Finest

From Overture Films, starring Richard Gere, Don Cheadle, Ethan Hawke, Wesley Snipes & Vincent D’Onofrio, this awesome cast is directed by Antoine Fuqua (Shooter, Training Day) is about three unconnected Brooklyn cops wind up at the same deadly location after enduring vastly different career paths.
This looks like a fun cast in a fun action flick.
