People Pickled About Michael Bay’s Plans for ‘Mutant Ninja Turtles’ Movie

I’m sure you’ve heard about it, but in case you haven’t, the news on the street was that Michael Bay was planning on adding his own take to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles live-adaptation reboot of the franchise.

During a press opp, when asked about the turtle movie, he replied that,

“When you see this movie, kids are going to believe, one day, that these turtles actually do exist when we are done with this movie. These turtles are from an alien race and they are going to be tough, edgy, funny and completely lovable.”

And if you could imagine, fans of the franchise went a little ballistic, no pun intended.  It seems that with Bay making the turtles an alien race didn’t settle well with the diehards.

One website went so far as to question the implausibility of an alien origin…  Their argument was that it would be a hard sell to believe that aliens talk the talk, love pizza and have a giant rat as an instructor.

Crickets…  an entire, huge field of crickets.

Seriously, an alien species versus a radioactive transformation creating walking, talking turtles doesn’t seem to be that much of a stretch to me, but then again, I’m not a franchise fanatic.

But the outcry was enough that Michael Bay had to come out and defend his statement and decision about the Teenage Ninja Mutant Turtle movie…

Turns out that while working with one of the co-creators of the franchise, they started creating a more complex origin to the karate spinning reptiles.  He said that, “Relax, we are including everything that made you become fans in the first place. We are just building a richer world.”

For it’s day, the 1990 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, directed by Steve Barron, was pretty impressive for it’s era with the body suits and facial feature usage.  And this movie was when I first saw Elias Koteas as the hockey stick wielding human sidekick.  I really enjoyed his character.  Any sporting accoutrement would do when needed.

If you want to check it out, for some reason, the movie is on YouTube…  It’s just good popcorn fun with some sarcastic turtles…

Oh…  in other news, Michael Bay is making a reboot of the TNMTs!

lol..I am always amazed at the things people will believe and then discount something else just as crazy.

I took my 2 nieces and my mum to watch a film years ago, the Stewart little one. My mum was fine with the talking mouse but thought it was crazy that there was some other animal talked.
