‘Prometheus’ & What David Said To The Engineer

Prometheus news This bit on Prometheus is  making all the rounds today, and that’s the news on the scene in the third act where the android, David, actually speaks to an engineer.

Prometheus SPOILER Ahead

As you all may be aware, if you saw Prometheus, the engineer didn’t respond too kindly to David’s request.

In fact, he reached over and tore David’s head off… and rightfully so, if you ask me!

From what the website, TheBioScopist, has figured out, it was a rather direct request.

Stu, from TheBioScopist, actually tracked down the consulting linguistics professional that Ridley Scott’s production used for the film and he asked him about it.

We find out that there’s originally, a longer dialog that takes place but editing had put it on the floor and not in the film.  There are hopes the longer conversation will make it to the editor’s cut of this reboot.

David said to the engineer:

/ida hman?m a? kja nam?tuh zd?:taha/…/gh??vah-pjorn-?ttham sas da:t? kredah/

A serviceable translation into English is:

‘This man is here because he does not want to die. He believes you can give him more life’.

Dude, seriously?  You meet an alien and you lead with that?  Not a hello, or how are you… just hey, I know we just woke you up and all, but can you give me everything I want?

Weyland deserved to be beaten down.  Sheesh!

Of course, the edited content that didn’t make it to the screen may have had the humble greeting…  maybe!
