In a nutshell, Ray Evernham put the word out what he thinks will help Dale Earnhardt Jr. get back to the front of the racing pack, and get better results.
Nameley, “he will need to react better to situations during the race and communicate better with his crew chief.”
His experience on the issue comes from his having a similar situation with Jeff Gordon, and if you’ve read my previous articles, I am leaning towards concurring with Evernham due to the stubborn nature of Dale Jr..
“He’s talented enough to win races. He’s talented enough to win championships. But I listen on the scanner and you just can’t be aggravated all the time.”
And that is definitely something I’ve seen in Jr., as it’s almost a trademark behavior pattern where Dale Jr. would argue with who ever sits in the crew chief seat.
With Evernham and J. Gordon, he said to deal with their issues, they used to have private sit-down times where they’d review the radio broadcasts so Gordon would understand where the disconnect was in their communication.
I think, considering Evernham’s success helming a team, I’d think he knows what he’s talking about and frankly, I’ve more or less overlooked this aspect to being a team player because we’re all wondering if it’s the equipment or if it’s the crew.
I know I’ve heard him snap plenty bad at his team during races over the years. Maybe, just maybe, Dale needs to not be “the boss” of whoever or what ever and take some humble pills… and I mean that with all the hope and respect I can muster, because I’d like to see that green and white Chevy back at the front. We all do. It gets Jr. nation standing in their seats everywhere to see our hero leading the pack.
We need it. The sport needs it.
