Brusimm Cinema Static Movie NewsWebsite reader Jessica lobbed a few questions my way the other day, and as I say in my ‘about’ page, if you have questions, fire them off and I’ll see what I can dig up. Jessica sent me some good ones and had me digging for a bit on one of her inquiries.

One question was about any update on The Scorpio Races, based on the book by Maggie Stiefvater. The other question regarded Clockwork Angel, by Cassandra Clare, and if there was any casting call for the movie… or in this case, was a movie even in the making! This led me into some information about The Immortal Instruments movie news!

Her first question was in regards to any update to The Scorpio Races.

As I reported back in October 2011, Warner Bros. had bought the film rights to The Scorpio Races, a book trilogy by Maggie Stiefvater.

The Scorpio Races book

The Scorpio Races is about a young woman entered in a horse race, but there’s a caveat of sorts… the horses are flesh-eating horses of Celtic mythological lore, water horses.

KatzSmith Productions is behind the project and right now, the film property is still noted as being in an optioned project. The producer right now, is listed as Seth Grahame-Smith, whose past credits include writer for TV series The Hard Times of RJ Berger, and has two other movie projects that are coming up… Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter & the Dark Shadows remake. He’s co-producing with David Katzenberg.

At this point in time, I don’t see any casting calls or audition announcements for The Scorpio Races.

I’m keeping my eyes open for any movie news regarding this movie, as movie news progresses.

Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare

Jessica’s next question, was about Cassandra Clare’s book Clockwork Angel and if I knew anything about that book and the potential of it being a movie. She had seen something about some characters having been cast for the movie.

Clockwork Angel is the first book of a series called The Infernal Devices.

Under the FAQ section of Cassandra Clare’s website, there’s no news specifically addressing Clockwork Angel.

Mortal Instruments: City of Bones

She does talk about casting for another novel of hers, a The Mortal Instruments movie. (Sometimes referred to as The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, like the book title.) Mortal Instruments is being produced and distributed by Screen Gems, the org behind such movies as Straw Dogs, Attack the Block, Resident Evil and Underworld movies.

So far, casting news for this movie, includes Lily Collins and Jamie Campbell Bower being cast. It’s being directed by Scott Charles Stewart (Priest, Legion).

A twitter account called @lilyasclaryfray has been set up so that Lily Collins can tweet as Clary Fray to fans during the film’s production.

An audition call was put out for The Mortal Instruments back in June of 2011. If you’re interested in, and if they’re still looking, you might check out the following link and see where that takes you…

If you head off to the casting link, remember, the most important key to having a chance to landing any gig, is by FOLLOWING THE DIRECTIONS at the link.

So I failed in finding news about Clockwork Angel, but landed a tidbit of news for The Mortal Instruments.

Jessica, I hope this helped in some way with what you were wondering about! I think I provided the right links to lead you off on your quest that you mentioned…

And thanks for coming by and tossing me a question. That was fun to dig movie news info for you.

Kristen, do you have source links for this info? I couldn’t find anything that stood up in my face and said this. I did find casting and such for THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS, but not Clockwork Angel. -Bruce

Good news! ‘Clockwork’ Angel (and all TID) have been optioned by Screen Gems as well. They are working on the script and recently talked to Clare about releasing the movies in the same order they released the books! SO EXCITING!!

Up to date movie news for both TMI & TID is available at
