American Cancer Society 'Relay for Life'For those of you who are interested, the American Cancer Society is holding their annual 2011 Relay for Life event in Menlo Park, Ca on May 14th, 2011.  This event takes place in this Bay Area, peninsula locale and it seems to be quite the turnout each year.

My company cranks out a few teams and right now, as of this writing, they have 17 teams signed up.  In fact my company this year is the First Silver Sponsor. Go team!

This event takes place, not only here on the Peninsula, but across the country. The purpose of the Relay for Life event is to,

“celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against a disease that takes too much.”

The event this year, takes place on 5/14/2011 at Burgess Park in Menlo Park, CA and starts at 10:00 am.

The reason you need teams is because this is like the 24-hour race at Daytona… (yea, there I go with race car analogies. I can’t help myself!)

Teams of people will be camping out around the event location and they take turns at a lap around the chosen location. Each team will (or should) always have a rep on-track cranking out the laps. The relay is a 24-hour event so it’s only for the sturdy or brave… then again, how often can you camp out at the park!? But there’s a reason for this… it represents the premise that for 24 hours, we don’t sleep in this fight against this nasty disease and that represents “the reality that cancer never sleeps.”
