Rodale SPAM Master

OK, maybe that’s a bit harsh but if you ever sign up for anything that is powererd by RODALE, look the “F” out!  You get so many offers from so many different organizations that as far as I’m concerned, it’s SPAM, like I’ve never seen before.

I signed up for a BLOG at Runner’s World.  That’s it!  A blog.  An annoying, non-intuitive blog at that.  But ever since I signed up for that blog, I’ve been opting out of all the different RODALE spammy emails they seem to have a collected pile of.

I had to do this once before and forgot that the offending entity was RODALE.  That is, until I started getting all this “related” offers and emails.

Technically, once you opt out of spam email, it’s illegal for that sender to send you any more.  Yet Rodale definitely has a way around that because each time I’ve opted out, it’s been from a different product-line offering each time.

I hate this crap where they pound you with unwanted, unsolicited emails.  Leave my in-box alone.

I’ve been opting out of something every day for the last two weeks, from the time of when I wrote this article.  If my recall is correct, I’ve got about another 2 weeks of opting out to go.  Daily opt outs.  Diligence is my middle name, and I will be free of them once again…  I hope.

OK, I’m done venting.  Thank you and have a nice day!

Nope.. you are not alone… Man. Always get the spouse their own email address. There’s a lesson to be learned here for sure!

On the bright side, though Rodale represents what feels like a thousand different companies, the ones I’ve been opting out of have stopped and my sanity is starting to come back.

Well, back to where it was before it started getting Rodale’d!

Thanks for pitching in here on SoB.

Another Spam Victim February 28, 2010 at 9:06 pm

Out of the blue I recently started getting spam from Rodale. I have never subscribed to any of their crappy magazines. Their “unsubscribe” button is a joke. I don’t get worked up about offers to enlarge my anatomy or solicitations for help in transferring $10,000,000 out of Nigeria. But the fact that this is a “real” company totally pisses me off. What a bunch of scumbags!

I have had a similar problem with Rodale, after spending weeks unsubscribing from their spam I have come up with a solution. I have Google Mail so I don’t know how you do it with other providers but, I created a filter in my settings, so that all email with Rodale in skips the inbox and gets forwarded back to them.

Lets turn the table on these spammers, send them back the unwanted junk, and clog up their inboxes. I subscribed to RunnersWorld, so I’m returning the emails to them: rwdcustserv@rodale.com I also found this email address on the Rodale website: rodalecs@omsg.co.uk

LOL, I like your thinking Simon. I’d bet bottom dollar they have filters for this stuff too so they never see it and then all we’re really doing is adding to the 183 BILLION emails a day traffic, where most of it is spammish bul***it anyway.

I have found them to be pretty responsive to the requests to bow out… it just takes a while to opt-out of ALL of them.

The hypocritical Rodale spam policy, from their website:

SPAM. The Sites online discussion forums, and the entire Rodale.com and MariasFarmCountryKitchen.com Web site is not to be used to “spam” others. “Spam” includes identical and irrelevant submissions posted repeatedly on the same or multiple message boards, and often includes a misrepresentation of the source of what is posted. Rodale.com and MariasFarmCountryKitchen.com may ban any user, at any time, without notice, for spamming or otherwise posting unwelcome messages on the message boards.

I also signed up for Runner’s World blog and got spammed super hard by Rodale. Every time they sent me something, I would unsubscribe, but I’d get sent something from another of their MANY lines. Finally I went to the “Email Preferences” and had to choose Unsubscribe All. They subscribed me to at least half a dozen other publications that I have no affiliation with.

Rodale is creepy and spammy and I’ll never buy a magazine from their line again.
