The season finale of Smallville starts in a dream sequence of Clark’s (Tom Welling), taking place in 2013 and I was really worried. Then back in the real world of Smallville, Zod (Callum Blue) tricks Lois (Erica Durance) into spying on Clark and Clark lets Chloe (Allison Mack) know that the “Book of Rao” is not a book but a key that opens a gate to another dimension. It will suck all Kryptonians away. (Yes, this season finale review of “Salvation” contains spoilers.)
Tess (Cassidy Freemen) tries to kill Zod up in the Fortress of Solitude… and fails miserably as Zod fries her with his favorite toy, his heat vision. Clark finds her and takes her to a hospital.
The Kandorians start to attack major landmarks all around the planet and Clark says he still wants to remove the Kandorians peacefully.
Lois snoops around Clark’s loft, finding all kinds of things that are Kryptonian… Lois and Clark chat, and she implores him to be honest with her, but he refuses.
While Oliver (Justin Hartley) is activating a backup satellite system, he gets attacked by multiple entities that we don’t see. Bt the last thing he yells is that they’re not Kandorians… This is the last we see or hear of Oliver in the episode.
Tess, who is in the hospital, flat lines. A strange person who had been knitting outside her room in the hallway walks in after Tess has been declared dead. That’s the last we see of Tess in the episode.
Clark, as The Blur, ends up kissing Lois. And now she knows it’s Clark.
Clark ends up tricking Zod into exposing his duplicity to the Kandorians and they acede to letting Clark send them away with his secret key to another world / dimension.
Zod doesn’t get sucked away because he has a blue kryptonite blade on him and Zod and Clark get into a fairly decent fight until Clark let’s Zod stab him and falls over the ledge, away from Zod. Without the blue blade, Zod suddenly realizes his mistake, and the yellow light takes him away.
We watch Clark fall away from the roof they were fighting on…
That’s the last we see of Clark and the season finale of Smallville ends on us, in a multiple set of cliffhanger threads.

Tonights season finale of Smallville at least wasn’t another Doomsday let-down. We knew there would be a confrontation between Clark and Zod and it lasted for more than 3 hits. Thank you!
Though I’ve come to the conclusion where I have to wonder just who doesn’t know where Clark’s Fortress of Solitude is located. Dang, I’m headed off to Google Earth to see where it is!
During the Kandorian global attack, this devastating event fell flat for me. There was supposed to be devastation going on world wide. And yet we saw no global interaction with Watchtower or the Justice League. The entire attack seemed limited to a single camera perspective.
Speaking of the Justice League: I felt ripped off on that front. We were promised their appearance in this season finale and that’s precisely what we received, a mere appearance of Justice League talking heads. Boo.
Oliver has a backup satellite system ready to go but to activate it, he had to crawl around in the ductwork of the building? Eh, sure, I’ll go with it, but really.
We were previously told some weeks back that someone would die by a “reported Smallville spoiler” off on another website and I’ve found that to be another crock of stuff. I’m getting tired of spoilers that turn out to be nothing but web traffic generating hot air.
Why is it that Clark would not tell Lois who he is, but as The Blur, kisses Lois. And now she knows it’s Clark. Not sure why he wouldn’t tell her, but silently kiss her.

But there you have it. With a large number of super powered beings and no major fight. That and so far, Clark still hasn’t lifted off in flight. That’s getting old. It’s nothing more than The Flash under a different name. So we’ve had 9 seasons of Smallville and yet Clark, as Clark, has only “flown” once. Not infected, not possessed, but as Clark. Do remember of which scene I am thinking? And it held such promise.

This episode was only an hour long and delivered the usual amount of Smallville entertainment. The flat spots were weak but the high points brought it back up to the usual par for Smallville. I came away from this season finale with the attitude that it could have been worse!

Pissed….. off…. that…. Tess…. DIED! >.< Hated that! Loved the episode but… Tess? Seriously? T_T best Smallville character. :'(
I kinda felt the blue kryptonite coming. After all, it was the only thing that would have given Clark the ability to stay. I however didn’t think that Zod would think about it as supposed to Clark. Anyone else a little stumped on the Olsen cameo. Granted, he looked like your standard Superman movie “Jimmy Olsen”, but uh…..Jimmy died already….so….unless this is somehow the baby bro in a bow tie grown up, I don’t really get it. I agree, it would have been nice to see the league in action, not just on multiple , monitors. Why are the original 4 (Flash {Impulse}, Aquaman, Cyborg, and Oliver never in the same scene? One or two are always missing, in this case being Flash and Aquaman. Ok, I’m done for now.
P.S. anyone else thing that Canary looked like an 80′s porn star with that hair?? lol, I’m just sayin.
great finale the justice league scenes were a bit of a let down but it was an exciting finale cant wait for season 10
I don’t think Tess is dead, I think Fate has a different plan for her and the Doctor will find her gone.
Chris… I feel like you’re on to something!
Someone will have to knock out the portal to the other dimension – I’m guessing Lois will, since she’s onto Clark’s alter ego and probably headed that direction – before he hits the ground to ensure that Clark remains on Earth. I think Clark will pull the dagger from his gut during the fall regardless, figuring on either being transported to New Krypton along with his people or surviving the fall with his powers should the portal close. Either way, Clark will survive the fall. I mean, the guy has died before.
Did Red Queen take Tess? Seemed like it to me, but why? A shame about Tess’s face. Always thought she was hot. lol
Who attacked Ollie? Checkmate operatives?
Overall, a pretty good finale. Was glad to see at least a glimmer of the suit and that Martha presented Clark with it. Very cool. And I for one am pro-flights and tights. Bring on the Man of Steel! Love the series and how it’s shown Clark grow into the hero we all know. But it’s time …
I liked it better when the original creators were still in charge (and when we still had Lex) but I keep watching because I’m no quiter.
Tess is not dead. Whomever that was knitting obviously went in there to pull some mojo. Red Queen? I don’t know but that is my first guess.
Someone above was confused about the Jimmy Olsen reference in the dream. Yes, the Jimmy (Henry James Olsen) that was married to Chloe is dead but his younger brother is not (James Bartholomew Olsen). He is the Jimmy we know from the Superman comics and movies.
The part that really has me scratching my head is who attacked (or saved?) Oliver Queen. I have a feeling they were possibly allies that we have not yet seen. I’m really confused as to who that may be.
Now for Clark. If I’m right in assuming that the ones that were surrounding Oliver were in fact friends, then it is those same friends that rescued Clark before he made a big splat on Main Street.
On a side note, Tess’s injuries reminded me of Two-face, but I think that was just bad writing.
I totally concur with you Jeff and yes, I am curious about the Oliver thing. They left an awful lot of ropes dangling in the air on this one.
