Bristol Motor Speedway logoThe following are Bits and Pieces about Bristol Motor Speedway:

Ground breaking for Bristol took place in 1960 and had it’s first NASCAR Cup race on July 30th, 1961.

It used to be exactly 1/2 a mile, but in 1969 it was reshaped and ended up being .533 miles long.  (Was someone drinking too much one night??)

Name changes:  In 1978 the name was changed to Bristol International Raceway, then in 1996 it was changed to the name we now know it by.

There have been 97 Cup races here since 1961.

79 of the 97 races have been won from a top-10 starting spots.  51 of those came from the first four spots.  (NBaP says:  But then again, that was the old configuration and now with the new one, things are different.)
