Spartacus Blood & Sand has quite the challenge in front of it as it airs against the Olympics, and the numbers are a little different than a normal television show due to airings on different networks, but I’m going to merely focus on the initial airing of the episode on Starz, though I’ll show you what I mean about complicated number as I report on the premiere episode of Spartacus. Here we go:
On it’s premiere night, there are several tallies to consider when looking at it’s live and same-day DVR numbers. It aired 6 times over its premiere weekend.
The first showing of Spartacus Blood & Sand drew in
Starz: 661,000 viewers and <<<( That’s the # I’ll be looking at later on.)
Encore: 580,000 viewers.
For a Total: 1,241,000 viewers.
There were additional encore airings on Starz and Encore which brought the show to an estimated 3.3 million total viewers for it’s premiere weekend. These days, how networks dig up their numbers are getting interesting, to say the least! But these are different times, and these different times bring in different ways to monetize a program and have it pay for itself.
It’s 2nd episode pulled in 773k viewers for live + same-day DVR viewings.
Spartacus Blood & Sand performed well again on it’s third episode of the show as the viewer numbers went up to 858k viewers.
Starz isn’t the first network that comes to mind with myself, but when they get television programs like this under their programming schedule, you can fully expect them to get on more viewers radars. They’re on mine. And with the increasing viewer numbers over the first 3 episodes, what I’m seeing, or at least, what it looks like is that word of mouth for the Friday night show is circulating about the office and more people are tuning in to check it out. That’s cool.
