When a friend of mine told me last year that Spider-Man will be in The Avengers movie, I sort of snorted at her, thinking she was a bit daft in the head. But she had an interesting source, so I expressed my doubt to her, but did not dismiss what she said.
This was last May.
Today Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures announced that Spider-Man will be appearing in an upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movie, and that film, though not officially announced, is suspected to be the next Captain America movie, considering that the upcoming Civil War story in the Marvel world involved Spider-Man in the comics.
And they’re exploring how to inject Spidey into other MCU stories while also integrating MCU characters into future Peter Parker films.
Plus the next Spidey movie will have Kevin Feige co-producing. OMG, that’s magic news for the film franchise too, considering that no matter how often Sony throws Spider-Man at the movie-goer, sure, they make money, but they don’t seem to grab ahold of the audiences imagination.
Plus with this newest reboot of the character and the last film that came out, it was a hodge podge mess of hopeful story seeds packed into a movie that had little compelling substance. Despite that, the five films Sony has made has netted $4 billion worldwide.
With Sony and Marvel combining forces, they’re exploring a new direction for our web spinning hero. Gads, I hope that does not mean another origins story, but none-the-less, this is great news that has finally confirmed what my source told me almost a year ago.
