Stanford Shopping Center Summer Jazz Series, 2011

sfjazz logoAs the summer approaches, so too do the evening summer concerts around the Peninsula region of the Bay Area.  In this case I’m talking about the Stanford Shopping Center’s Summer Jazz Series that starts on June 16th and runs through August 18th, 2011.

Stanford Shopping Center’s Summer Jazz Series, presented by See’s Candies, Gentry Magazine, wheretraveler.com and C Magazine, will be hosting its 25th year of the free jazz concerts this year.  That’s awesome staying power for a free event that everyone in the neighborhood can enjoy.

This year there will be such artists as Lavay Smith and Her Red Hot Skillet Lickers, Times 4 and Le Jazz Hot Quartet!

“The ten-week concert series is hosted by Stanford Shopping Center (Palo Alto) and produced by SFJAZZ, a leading non-profit jazz organization on the West Coast. The events will be emceed by Clifford Brown Jr. and will feature the following acts:

June 16 – Lavay Smith and Her Red Hot Skillet Lickers
(The matchless grande dame of the Bay Area swing scene)
June 23 – Stanford Jazz Workshop Faculty All-Stars
(The All-Stars present an afternoon of new arrangements of classic jazz, featuring saxophonists Patrick Wolff and Andrew Speight, trumpeter Erik Jekabson, pianist Joe Gilman,
bassist John Wiitala and drummer Hamir Atwal.)
June 30 – Erik Jekabson’s Son’s New Orleans Quintet Featuring Kenny Washington
(Trumpeter Erik Jekabson and vocalist extraordinaire Kenny Washington team up with a top-notch band to play classic New Orleans Jazz.)
July 7 – Weather Wayne with Michael Zilber
(Leading San Francisco-based saxophonist and composer Michael Zilber, Weather Wayne focuses on the music of saxophone legend Wayne Shorter)
July 14 – Tito y su Son de Cuba
(Led by the irrepressible master of the six-string tres, Heriberto “Tito” Gonzalez, Tito y su Son de Cuba is committed to Son Cubano, the traditional Cuban music form)
July 21 – Times 4
(San Francisco-based jazz-funk-soul quartet Times 4 presents a dynamic program of contemporary jazz and urban grooves.)
July 28 – Scott Amendola Quartet
(This quartet is a more traditional “jazz” setting for the masterful Bay Area drummer, but what’s guaranteed is a non-traditional evening of improvised music.)
August 4 – Forró Brazuca
(Forró Brazuca plays the sensuous, upbeat sounds of northeastern Brazil)
August 11 – María Volonté
(Winner of the Gardel Prize, a Latin Grammy nominee and member of the Tango Hall of Fame, María Volonté is an Argentine singer-songwriter celebrated for the intense passion)
August 18 – Le Jazz Hot Quartet
(Join guitar virtuoso Paul Mehling’s Le Jazz Hot Quartet of the Hot Club of San Francisco for a celebration of love songs and driving gypsy jazz made famous during the 1920s and ’30s)

I’m a little confused, are the concerts listed on this site, Sunday’s or Thursdays? Would appreciate a reply.
