STARBUCKS Reminds Us About Their Diminished Rewards Program

Starbucks Increases the prices of free things

I received an email from Starbucks reminding me about the short end of the stick they’re giving their customers concerning their rewards program.

I mean seriously, a while back, I wrote about how Starbucks ( Starbucks must think we are idiots ) announced that we, the customers, asked for a change to the program where we have to spend more to receive fewer stars.  Which incidentally, would mean we get fewer rewards while spending more money. On principal alone, I’ve scaled back my Starbucks spending. I don’t like being called a fool.

Any way, Starbucks sent out a reminder this last weekend that we will be spending $1 for every two stars we now earn, (leaving out the number of stars we’ll be needing to buy to get freebies) and that the app will be changing/updating and that the program starts April 11th.

Here’s the announcement:

On Tuesday, April 12, we’re launching the new Starbucks Rewards.

You’ll start to collect 2 Stars for every $1 you spend on coffee, food, drinks, mugs—and more.

What to Expect

On Monday, April 11, we’ll be making updates to the Starbucks® app and website. During the day, you might notice certain parts of the app and site may not appear to work properly.

You’ll still be able to:
•  collect Stars
•  redeem rewards
•  pay with your phone
•  order ahead and jump the line

Don’t worry if there are some delays, or certain things (like your Star count) seem incorrect. We’re keeping track of everything and all your correct information will be available again on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, April 12, the new program launches. Gold and Green members will keep their current membership level, and Welcome members will be upgraded to Green. Any rewards you’ve already earned will carry over and any Stars you had in your account will be multiplied by 11 to reflect the program change.

We’ll also be releasing an update to the Starbucks® app, so be sure to check your phone on Tuesday. When the new version becomes available, the app will prompt you to update.

So if you are still hitting up Starbucks, keep an eye on your app gang!
