Stargate Universe

Tuesday night struck Syfy Channel fans in the gut once again.  With lackluster ratings for Stargate Universe, (even for the show!), Syfy Channel has announced that they are not renewing the series after it finishes off the second half of its run in the spring.

Stargate Universe has ten more episodes in their second season and that, as they say, will be it.  When Stargate Universe comes to a close, the following week or season or what have you will mark the first time since 1997 that a Stargate series will not have new episodes to share on TV in the continuing saga of the alien transportation system that has captured the imagination of millions of fans.

When they moved Stargate Universe to Tuesday, I publicly cried foul and worried about the show, but Syfy said that moving the show to Tuesday best serves the show’s fans… or something like that.  Apparently not enough Nielsen fans showed up to make it worth their while.

The Destiny from Stargate Universe on Syfy

Despite a slow start to the series, it was a dark, depressing and hopeless situation that the characters found themselves in.  The show finally got its footing as the crew finally figured out how to take control of the ship they’re on, the Destiny.  The story was becoming more action packed, like fans might like and there were developments taking place that kept one pondering.

When Syfy abruptly pulled Caprica off the air, I watched the ratings plummet for SGU thereafter.  Together they were a team, pulling in the same demographic.  After that, SGU was left to flounder on its own.   So for now, the next ten episodes of Stargate Universe, will be its last ten and slowly, the core fan of the Syfy Channel is getting left behind as the network enjoys historic growth via its new venues.  I’m too depressed to say anything else at the moment!  (Yea, I liked it.  What of it?)

They should have formed wrestling teams on the Destiny and dressed in stupid costumes and hit each other with chairs and ladders and tables… then it woulda lasted!
