Andy Whitfield

It’s inevitable that this would happen, but Starz is looking to recast the role that Andy Whitfield defined in Spartacus: Blood and Sand.  It sickens me that Andy had to pull out due to his illness, but what is anyone going to do?

[Updated 9-11-11:  Please see my very sad update today on the death of Andy Whitfield.]

With his backing out, Starz had to make a tough decision, but eventually, (today) the casting call went out looking for a male Caucasian who is in his mid to late 30’s who can play an intense & passionate title role.  Folks looking for such need to have an authentic British accent and be ready to sign a three-year contract.

In other news:  Looking at the casting call, you can see that Starz is prepared to run out Spartacus: Blood and Sand to a four season run if all goes well.  Yet can anyone really fill Whitfield’s outline that he already set for the character?

Aside from the main role, Starz is also looking to cast regulars for the second season of Blood and Sand.

They are looking for “body builders and athletes (both men and woman) and African, Spanish, Italian, Greek, and Middle Eastern people of all ages.”

IMPORTANT: See Spartacus Season 2 Casting Call for the details on what you need to do and who to contact.
