Well, why stop at one when you can try for two megahit movies! The Host is another book to movie project from Stephenie Meyer and this one has stepped away from sparkling vampires and snagged the next bigger craze, and that’s space alien infestations in The Host.

Saoirse Ronan in 'The Host' 2In The Host, “A parasitic alien soul is injected into the body of Melanie Stryder (Saoirse Ronan). Instead of carrying out her race’s mission of taking over the Earth, “Wanda” (as she comes to be called) forms a bond with her host and sets out to aid other free humans.

As far as trying to free these other humans, apparently as the invasion commences, humans have tried resisting, but it’s usually a physical resistance. But on occasion, they encounter the humans whose minds don’t give up the fight for control of their bodies.

Or, soul aliens and human renegades. Hence, I believe, Wanda meets her own host that way.

If you’ve already read the book, you might be wondering what’s up and how people are coming into this reading, knowing things? That question is asked because the first printings didn’t really give you a heads up on background.

Now, the newest print/Kindle versions of The Host have a new introduction from Meyer explaining things a little bit more in-depth so that when you jump into the book, it makes more sense right up front rather than sorting it out as you go.

Saoirse Ronan and Max Irons in 'The Host' The Host movie cast includes Boyd Holbrook, Saoirse Ronan, Diane Kruger, Frances Fisher, Jake Abel, Max Irons & William Hurt.

The cast will be directed by Andrew Niccol, who also adapted to the book to the screenplay. Niccol’s past work includes In Time, Lord of War, The Truman Show and Gattaca.

It’s due out in theaters on March 29th, 2013.

If you’re interested, here’s a first look at the new introduction and it has an excerpt that starts at chapter 10 from the novel…

And that’s what I have for you regarding The Host. For now… until something tries to invade your brain before the movie opens…

Diane Kruger in 'The Host'Oh great… now I’ll be looking closely into everyone’s eyes at work!  Are youuu an alien?  What about you?  Hmm.

On Amazon:  The Host: A Novel

THE HOST is a riveting story about the survival of love and the human spirit in a time of war.  Our world has been invaded by an unseen enemy.   Humans become hosts for these invaders, their minds taken over while their bodies remain intact. Most of humanity has succumbed. “
