Supernatural Jared Padalecki Mitch Pileggi and Jensen Ackles

Quick recap of my thoughts on this episode:† What the hell was that?

In an eerie and truly creepy beginning in the season premiere of Supernatural, we see Dean (Jensen Ackles) in a 9-5 construction job, being a step-dad and living with Lisa (Cindy Sampson) and her son Ben.† With each modern day scene of Dean’s day-to-day life, we see a parrallel scene of his hunter days with Sam, in black & white.

It’s been a year since Dean showed up at suburbia after averting Armageddon.† And things start to happen to Dean.† He hears a woman scream but all he finds is some blood in an old building.† Later, he see’s more interesting clues of what looks like claw marks at a house.† He then see’s Yellow Eyes, but then Sam (Jared Padalecki) shows up and jabs Dean with a needle that turns out to be a cure to a poison he’s been infected with by Djinn.

It turns out Sam has been hunting for the last year with members of the extended hunter family that Dean never knew existed Ė the Campbells, his motherís family.† This includes their grandfather, Samuel (Mitch Peleggi).† The new unexplained thing this season so far, is Sam having been mysteriously freed from his cage in hell and Samuel being returned to Earth from heaven.

The hunters showed up because the Djinn found Dean.

In the end, while dealing with the Djinn and while Sam & Dean are busy, Samuel bags one and takes it away, “Quick, before the boys come back.”† Somethin’ is up with Samuel.† Unless that’s part of the process of how he creates a cure for the Djinn poisons.

Thoughts on the Season Premiere of Supernatural

I am not sure about this season premiere of Supernatural.† It felt like an off-paced episode.† There was an odd stiffness to the characters as if it was a new series.† I really can’t put my finger on it.† There was no connection between brothers.† There was no real connection with anyone, especially this viewer.

Is this what we’re in store for with the new showrunner, Sera Gamble at the reins or was this a fluke?† A season premiere is a very bad time to have a fluke bad episode.† This was the time to crank it out and impress everyone that tuned in, not give us just another television series episode.
