The upcoming standard Syfy Channel holiday weekend marathon for the Labor Day weekend is a bit Stephen King centric. Is it just me or does the SyFy channel seem to be becoming less sci fi and more “ghosts and ghouls” and horror centric?
As you say they seem to be showing The Langoliers and The Stand a lot as it is. Maybe they paid so much for the rights so they have to show it a load of times to make it pay.
They show so little scifi they should have to give up the name, no matter how they spell it.
Yes Paul, Syfy is broadening it’s genre coverage to get more impact for the network. That means more reality programming, more wrestling and less sci-fi.
VeraZ: Indeed. When they brought over the BBC bigwig to be in charge, this was his plan… broaden the different types of shows and online presence to draw more viewers.
It is working and some of the fantasy / sci-fi shows we see are getting consistently higher ratings these days. But the offerings are dwindling too. It’s an odd and confusing bag of good, with bad.
I have a post around here somewhere that talks about their new and upcoming shows. They seem odd, but I’m not writing them off until I see them. Including the one from “Michael Rosenbaum.”
Patience and try not to grit your teeth too much.
Thanks for coming by folks!
