SYFY Channel Upfronts News, Metrics and Details of upcoming Reality Programming

The cable upfronts have come and gone and the Syfy Channel had a lot to pitch out there to the industry.

Syfy Channel was #2 amongst cable networks for original prime-time programming in 2009.

One parameter from their new look and campaign, for the advertisers, reported that:

“Viewers who watched Syfy’s 31 Days of Halloween, which was sponsored by Hershey’s, were 53% more likely to purchase candy. Avatar Ads Ranked #1 in Title Recall and #1 Intent to View on basic cable and broadcast. Warehouse 13 was the #1 Most Engaging new cable series among Adults 25-54 (July-December 2009)”

I know some of that might seem like another language, but these metrics help the network stay alive and bring us shows we like… it’s the reality of the beast. Sorry.

Speaking of reality, Syfy is launching a reality programming block on Thursday nights.

“The new night of reality programming premieres on Thursday, July 15, from 9-11PM (ET/PT), anchored by Mary Knows Best (working title), chronicling the life of celebrated radio host and psychic, Mary Occhino, and Paranormal Investigators (working title), which separates truth from fiction on supernatural and mysterious occurrences. Beast Legends, which examines monsters of myth, will later join the reality bloc.”

Yea, yea… I know. Actually, these sound awful familiar, but my guess is that with the advent of how well the reality-like program of Ghost Hunters does, and I can see why they’re pitching these new “reality TV” series. In the middle of your groaning, just remember that these shows bring in the money so that if there is a show you do enjoy on the Syfy Channel, well, this can’t hurt.
