The Comic Con (sdcc11) panel for 20th Century Fox was a guessing game, as they had not announced what they had brought to tease us with. (At least I never heard ahead of time… sure, there were guesses and rumors, but I didn’t know.) But the intelligent guesses who said panel attendees would see Prometheus, Rise of the Planet of the Apes and In Time… should go play the lottery this week!
First up was the moderator, Damon Lindelof.
Then we got
Prometheus
The Prometheus panel at Comic Con had Charlize Theron come out and join Lindelof and via video feed from the frozen tundra of somewhere, Noomi Rapace and Ridley Scott also joined the gang in the panel.
Theron let out the she plays a “suit” in the movie, who is in charge of the primary mission. There was also something about naked push-ups… (Now I definitely have some readers’ attentions!)
Scott noted the movie is being shot in 3D and isn’t using too much CG in this movie. He also noted that he’ll never work in 2D again, as he seems to be liking filming in 3D.
Scott suggested there might be two robots in the movie. Scott says that in regards to the mechanized entities, he feels they had to come up with something new and/or original and he feels they did come up with some original material.
And though this movie doesn’t have anything to do with the Alien movies (spinoff of sorts?), he said that no one ever asked a specific question in the sequels, but this question that was never asked is the center of the story. He also added that in the last few minutes of the movie, things will make sense as to how this film is related to Alien.*
The film is PG-13, but when asked about that, he said that he’s always prepared with multiple versions of a movie, so when he pens something, there’s a PG-13 version on standby, ready to go.
*Though Ridley Scott did NOT say anything, my suspicion about the central premise of what was never asked in the sequels, is where are the aliens from? How did they come to be. I mean heck, the alien DNA has been referenced a few times in accord with this movie, so that’s my guess!
Prometheus comes out to your local movie theater in June of 2012.
