20th century fox

The Comic Con (sdcc11) panel for 20th Century Fox was a guessing game, as they had not announced what they had brought to tease us with.  (At least I never heard ahead of time…  sure, there were guesses and rumors, but I didn’t know.)  But the intelligent guesses who said panel attendees would see Prometheus, Rise of the Planet of the Apes and In Time… should go play the lottery this week!

"Comic Con" News

First up was the moderator, Damon Lindelof.

Then we got

Prometheus

The Prometheus panel at Comic Con had Charlize Theron come out and join Lindelof and via video feed from the frozen tundra of somewhere, Noomi Rapace and Ridley Scott also joined the gang in the panel.

Theron let out the she plays a “suit” in the movie, who is in charge of the primary mission.  There was also something about naked push-ups…  (Now I definitely have some readers’ attentions!)

Scott noted the movie is being shot in 3D and isn’t using too much CG in this movie.  He also noted that he’ll never work in 2D again, as he seems to be liking filming in 3D.

Scott suggested there might be two robots in the movie.  Scott says that in regards to the mechanized entities, he feels they had to come up with something new and/or original and he feels they did come up with some original material.

And though this movie doesn’t have anything to do with the Alien movies (spinoff of sorts?), he said that no one ever asked a specific question in the sequels, but this question that was never asked is the center of the story.  He also added that in the last few minutes of the movie, things will make sense as to how this film is related to Alien.*

The film is PG-13, but when asked about that, he said that he’s always prepared with multiple versions of a movie, so when he pens something, there’s a PG-13 version on standby, ready to go.

'Prometheus' from Ridley Scott fan made Movie Poster

*Though Ridley Scott did NOT say anything, my suspicion about the central premise of what was never asked in the sequels, is where are the aliens from?  How did they come to be.  I mean heck, the alien DNA has been referenced a few times in accord with this movie, so that’s my guess!

Prometheus comes out to your local movie theater in  June of 2012.

"Comic Con" News

The upcoming 2011 San Diego Comic Con, which takes place starting July 20th and running through July 24th is a bit of a game changer this year.  For one, a few movie studios said they weren’t’ showing up this year.  I want to emphasize that they “said” they  weren’t.  I keep hearing rumors to the contrary but I’m not saying anything until I see the actual news or press releases concerning surprise appearances!  To some extent, I get it though.  Studios can dump a huge amount of money into marketing the Comic Con event and then the movies crash and burn, comparatively speaking.

Or maybe the wrong movies were viral marketed.  Who knows.  But for now, what the absence of some studios means is that Hall H is now open for other venues of entertainment, such as television productions.  Now TV studios can get a hand-hold on that huge 5,000 seat auditorium and pack in the TV crowd, or, maybe there might be just a little bit more room to sit than Ballroom 20 used to afford.

With that said, looking over the 4-day schedule of Comic Con‘s two most infamous rooms, I see some sneak peek pilot airings, I see popular TV series, some movies from Sony, 20th Century Fox, DC Entertainment, Paramount Entertainment, Relativity Media and much more.

For personalities, there are a few scheduled for the big rooms:  Jon Favreau, Guillermo del Toro, Francis Ford Coppola, Dan Deacon and the ever verbally colorful Kevin Smith!  I would always recommend catching Jon Favreau when he speaks.  I have never walked away from any event with him in it and not learned some incredible inside perspective on the industry when he talks.  He’s like ‘the people’s director’ and fills us in!  He talks to the crowds and entertains.  It’s great and I look forward to catching what he has to say!

And most panel Q&A’s will have major talent attending.

So check out the Comic Con sched below for these two huge rooms and tell me what you think you’d like to catch!  Me, I need to clone myself because I have no ‘Agents of Cinema Static‘ (that are going) and there are good things in both rooms on all days.  Also for more details, see the site itself for more, much, much more on details.
