Today I’m trying a new quickie feature that I might call Quick Movie Reviews. These micro reviews will be about movies I caught on PPV or on cable and can sometimes not be something I always cover, but was surprised by what I saw. With that said, today I’m tackling 21 Jump Street, Final Destination 5 and the underwater tension drama called Sanctum.

Review of 21 Jump Street
21 Jump Street stars Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill. and is about “A pair of underachieving cops are sent back to a local high school to blend in and bring down a synthetic drug ring.”
This is not a serious film, but one of those haphazard, comedic swipes at a known TV franchise. It’s over the top antics filtered with some story line that carries the film forward well enough. There’s a cute undertone as the two guys are assigned to a school that being more nerd is cool and Tatum’s cool guy character goes through a funny metamorphosis to fit into this new form of cool.
There’s even a cameo or two of some cast from the original TV series, but I’ll leave that for you to discover. But make no mistake, this comedic Police Academy-like movie is a huge and far cry from the original 1987 TV series.
It’s cute with some decent laugh-out-loud moments and I don’t feel like I wasted by rental monies, but I am glad I didn’t drop box office bucks on this one.
